MinneaPolis — Multi-Tech has begun shipping its new MultiModem iSMS intelligent short messaging service server, a device designed to integrate text-messaging communications into third-party machine-to-machine applications and currently under consideration by several pharmacies for refill reminders.
In a pharmacy setting, customers would receive a message when prescriptions were due to be refilled. They could then send back trigger messages with refill instructions, followed by a final message from the pharmacy when orders were ready for pickup.
“This product could cause people to rethink data communications,” Multi-Tech VP sales and marketing Bill Chesney said. “ Because many M2M applications transmit small, periodic bits of information, the MultiModem iSMS provides an alternative to more expensive, high-bandwidth data solutions. This makes the MultiModem iSMS ideal for remote monitoring and automation solutions.”
