HAUPPAUGE, N. Y. — Carson Optical, a supplier of magnifiers, has introduced its Lighted MagRX, RX-75.
The Lighted MagRX, RX-75 is a three-times power, clip-on magnifier designed to fit on most standard prescription bottles. Patients just clip the magnifier to a prescription bottle and swing the magnifying lens outward to magnify text. The Lighted MagRX’s two ultra-bright LED lights illuminate the prescription label and, combined with the three-times magnification, make fine-print dosing instructions easy to read. The product is easy to remove for use on multiple prescription bottles and, when Carson Optical’s Lighted MagRX, RX-75 not in use, the magnifying lens can be folded inward to lie flat against the bottle for easy storage.
The original MagRX, RX-55, available with a two-times or three-times magnifier without LED lighting, is of similar design to the RX-75—fitting most standard prescription and over-the-counter medicine bottles.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Aton Pharma has launched an expanded, comprehensive distribution program that incorporates sampling, reimbursement assistance and patient education resources for the dry-eye medication Lacrisert.
The preservative-free Aton Pharma’s Lacrisert drug is a once-daily, sustained-release prescription insert that helps to retain moisture, stabilize the tear film and lubricate the eye.
Lacrisert has a new Aton Pharma national drug code and now is available. Lacrisert 5 mg is supplied in packages of 60 sterile unit doses, each wrapped in an aluminum blister, with two reusable applicators and a plastic storage container to store the applicators after use.
“Once the patient inserts Lacrisert in the morning, it usually lasts the entire day, so it’s something that is helpful to offer patients suffering from chronic pain from dry eye disease,” explained Penny Asbell, professor of ophthalmology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and co-author of the pivotal textbook “Dry Eye Disease, the Clinician’s Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment.” “One of the advantages of Lacrisert is that it is preservative-free.”
Lacrisert is administered into the inferior cul-de-sac of the eye, where it gently dissolves to provide lubrication and protection to the surface of the eye. In some patients, the drug also may help slow, stop or reverse further damage to the corneal surface. Most insurance companies cover Lacrisert.
Some of the item numbers for the drug are: AmerisourceBergen 5039565 095-182, Cardinal Health 4039129 and McKesson 148-6521
Other numbers can be found at www.lacrisert.com/obtaining.htm.

and inflammation of the eye.
The drug also is used to treat moderate to severe polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis in adults and ankylosing spondylitis, or arthritis of the spine and sacroiliac joints, as well as moderate to severe Crohn’s disease.
